Research & Policy
  • Description: Support scholars, practitioners, and community members in designing and conducting rigorous and ethical research to better understand the experiences of immigrants and refugees. Evaluate the impact of programs that support immigrants and refugees while building the capacities of community organizations in evaluation. This could include grant research, writing and publishing.
  • Potential Projects:
    • utilization workshop/training for research rubric and ethical research
    • Workshop on Research within the Refugee/Immigrant Community
Curricular & Professional Development
  • Description: Develop curricular/co-curricular and professional development/training efforts with local, national, and/or international schools, colleges and universities, and local/national organizations around issues related to immigrants and refugees.
  • Potential Projects:
    • Coordination of a Symposium to present research and issues
    • Development of shorter presentations/speaking engagements to expand knowledge or engagement with refugee and immigrant issues
    • Creating a strategy for the marketing and expansion of Forced Migration Minor (UNCG-Specific)
Community Engagement
  • Description: Directly and intentionally create reciprocal connections and collaborations between CNNC Fellows and community partners (service providers, refugees/immigrants, government agencies, educational institutions, etc.) that bring initiatives, training, and events to the community. Ensure that research and engagement programs are primarily based on the refugee and immigrants’ community needs and strengths..
  • Potential Projects:
    • Creating a Resource Bank for Community Engagement
    • Compile/expand resource/service provider lists to a statewide list for North Carolina.
    • Facilitate an in-person event to connect researchers, faculty, and service providers.
