Get to know us
I am from California but have only ever known Greensboro, NC as home since my family moved here when I was three years old. My parents are originally from Mexico where they both left at just 18 in search for better opportunities for them and their future family. I am proud to be Mexican American and serve my community in ways I know people like my parents would’ve greatly benefited from.
As I’ve learned more about Immigrants and Refugees during my bachelor’s at UNCG, I realized that a lot of families lived experiences were a direct result of a system that does not support or has resources readily available for families like mine. Being the support for individuals such as my parents is a deeply personal motivator for my dedication to being a part of the ACCESS Project.
My goal after my service year is to use my experiences and knowledge to help me through grad school. Iwanr to be a school social worker in Greensboro and continue working and helping the immigrant and refugee population. I know that my time as an AmeriCorps Volunteer will be meaningful and bring great insight for when I begin my MSW internship.
While I will hopefully be getting started in my master’s program, I would like to continue to find ways to serve my community.
I would like to spend my free time not only caring for myself through hobbies such as art, animals and nature, but spending quality time with those close to me, my support system.
A fun fact people would be surprised to know about me is that while I may be Mexican, I can’t handle spice. Ha ha ha
