Samantha Williams

I am from Indian Trail (South Charlotte) and I grew up in the Charlotte area. I chose AmeriCorps because I like the idea of helping people. I thought the ACCESS project would be a good fit because of by education and where I was located. I would like to work as a communications professional for a nonprofit or a social entrepreneurship. Maybe work my way up to Director of Development. I am passionate about the arts and cross-cultural communication. I like learning ways to communicate by using visual arts or music. I like to cook when I have free time and have people over to eat and hang out. Samantha serves with International House of Metrolina in Charlotte.

Marlene-De-Los-Santos-234x300Marlene De Los Santos

I was born in Texas but I am from Winston-Salem, NC. I grew up in Mt. Airy, NC and recently moved to Winston last year. I joined AmeriCorps because I wanted the chance to meet new people. Learn about different cultures and different parts of the world, as well as gain more experience working with refugees and immigrants. After AmeriCorps, I would love to find a career where I could continue working with refugees and immigrants or in a nonprofit. I am passionate about meeting new people and learning about other cultures. I spend my free time going on walks with friends and family, going salsa dancing, and volunteering at other organizations or working at the YMCA in Winston. Marlene serves with New Arrivals Institute in Greensboro.

I also am passionate about children and cats and dogs. I love hanging out with my roommates/best friends. I like to watch Youtube videos, especially beauty bloggers. Jae serves with Greensboro United Soccer Foundation in Greensboro.

I am from Vermont. I moved there from Southern CA when I was 9 years old to my father’s home town of Bellows Falls. I joind AmeriCorps because I wanted to serve in some way. I hope to study our social welfare system and know that gaining nonprofit experience is the best way to start. I also hope to better understand the immigrant experience to the U.S. I would like to study social service systems in Mexico & the US. Eventually I hope to work to create meaningful change through policy writing, community engagement and research. I am passionate about creating a more just global society. I love hiking, laughing, knitting, travel, reading, painting, letter writing, and enjoying a good cup of coffee. Eliza serves with Centro La Comunidad in Burlington.

Watson-Frances-239x300Frances Watson

I am originally from Dallas, Texas and I currently live in Asheville, where bears roam free! I joined AmeriCorps because I was an ESL teacher almost 24 years, and love working with refugees and immigrants. I am currently serving a 2nd term as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps has opened many doors for me. After serving 4 terms, I will continue my ministry with Catholic Charities. I’m a life longer learner, the training sessions have been awesome at no cost! I am passionate about my ministry! I want to “make a difference,” everyday. I enjoy cooking, reading, traveling, taking long walks at the Biltmore Estate, and playing with my bunnies, “Sofia-Sopapilla,” and “Fifi.” Frances serves with Catholic Charities in Asheville.
