Biographical Information
Cameron Lippard is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Appalachian State
University. He graduated with his
Ph.D. from Georgia State University in 2006 with an emphasis on race and
ethnic relations, urban studies, and immigration. From 2006 to 2007, he served as a
research associate with Augusta State University’s Center for
Immigration Studies, and has also served as a community research member
for the Latino Health Coalition of Avery and Watauga counties. Cameron is also an appointed committee member of the New River
Mental Health Advisory Board and the Vice Chairperson of the Mediation
and Restorative Justice Center, organizations serving of western North
Carolina.
Cameron’s research and teaching interests focus on race relations within
education and the labor force, as well as a particular slant towards
examining the integration of Latinos into the South. Recent research endeavors include
examining the issues facing Latinos in accessing healthcare in a rural
area and Latino acculturation in Georgia.
He has also studied the incorporation and effects of Latinos on
the construction industry, as well as anti-immigrant sentiment expressed
by native-born Whites and Blacks throughout the South.
