Biographical Information
Cindy Knul describes herself as a “military brat,” having attended
thirteen schools by the 9
th grade due to her Dad’s military
involvement. This sparked a
love of reading, travel and people from other cultures and a disdain for
all wars and people being treated unjustly. This in turn led her to become an active Quaker. She is married to a former Montagnard refugee from Viet Nam and
has a fifteen year old son at home who attends a private Quaker school
in Greensboro. She
recognizes her family and her friends as the driving force in her life
and never misses an opportunity to socialize.
Cindy has been employed with a private, non profit adoption and foster
care agency, Children’s Home Society (CHS) for seven years as the
Director of Recruitment Outreach. She is particularly interested in identifying a diverse group of
families who would be able to parent minority children in the foster
care system. Cindy possesses
first-hand experience with the child welfare system, as a foster parent
for twenty-seven years and an adoptive parent for thirteen years.
Prior to coming to CHS, she worked with
refugees for seventeen years from all over the world with Lutheran
Family Services.
Cindy possesses a Bachelor of Science in Community Mental Health from
North Carolina A&T State University.
