Stephanie Baldwin is a graduate of the joint master in social work program between NC A&T State University and UNCG. She serves as director of the Glen Haven Community Development Project, a unique community service and training facility serving a low income immigrant community at the Glen Haven apartment complex through a collaborative effort of local college and university resources and community partner service providers providing direct services to newcomers. Services include after school tutoring in cooperation with the school system, ESL training through the community college system, family case management, mental health activities, multicultural conflict resolution activities, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and other services. Newcomer groups include various African, Asian, and Latino newcomers.

Currently Stephanie is working with stakeholders to replicate the Glen Haven site at a new apartment complex, Avalon Apartments, starting in January of 2009. This unique community center approach to immigrant integration is a demonstration project of community collaboration and best practices in culturally competent integration of newcomers.
