2012-13 AmeriCorps Application Checklist

NOW ACCEPTING 2012-13 MEMBER APPLICATIONS

AmeriCorps is a ONE YEAR COMMITMENT to LEARN, SERVE, and earn a SMALL MONTHLY STIPEND and EDUCATION AWARD while performing community service.  Our program year starts September 14th and ends August 31st of the following year.

Interviews will begin in MAY 2012.  Our objective is to fill all positions with the most qualified candidates on a first come first serve basis by the end of August.  The sooner you submit your application, the greater the chance of securing a position with our program. Thus, we do not set application deadline. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY

POSITIONS AVAILABLE

27 - Full-Time: Serve 1700 hours over the program year, earn $12,100 in a yearly stipend & $5,550 in education award. Eligible to apply for childcare and free health insurance.

21- Part-Time: Serve 900 hours over the program year, earn $6,050 in a yearly stipend & $2,775 in education award.

The following position is ideal for internships, persons 55 years plus (can transfer ed. awards to loved ones), need $ for school, and need to gain professional experience.

15 - Part-Time Education Award Only: Serve 900 hours over the program year & receive $2,775 in education award.

  1. Please submit a letter of interest ADDRESSING ALL of the following:
    • What are your top 3 reasons for wanting to be in the ACCESS Project?
    • Tell us why you are the perfect candidate for the ACCESS Project?
    • Tell us about your experience with different cultures or human services programs
    • Financial burden is one of the reasons why an AmeriCorps member fails to fulfill their AmeriCorps commitment. When a member leaves the program early, it has negative impact on our partner agency, clients and the ACCESS program. What plan and/or support system do you have in place to live off the AmeriCorps stipend for a year?
    • Indicate your area of interest:
      • Full-time or Part-time

      • Serving with adults or children
      • Focus Area (teaching ESL, teaching Citizenship, volunteer recruitment, disaster preparedness, employment services, interpretation)

  8. UNCG Application – To fill out the UNCG application:
    • Go to www.uncg.edu and click on Employment (under Campus Links, on right side of the screen).  
    • Then click on SPA (under Employment Opportunities, on the left side of the screen).  
    • Click on Create Application (under UNCG Job Search, on the left side of the screen).  
    • You will need to create a login and password and fill out the online application. DO NOT SUBMIT APPLICATION ONLINE!
    • Click on Preview Application (on the menu on the left side of the screen).  
    • Print the completed application from the new window that pops up.
    • Sign and date the application.
  9. Initiate an FBI criminal background check and SUBMIT verification (receipts).  
    • You will need to contact the FBI and initiate that check.  You can go to the following website and follow the steps:  http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/submitting-an-identification-record-request-to-the-fbi.  
    • You can usually get fingerprints done at your local Police or Sheriff's Department.   Applicants can obtain detailed instructions for the FBI fingerprinting procedures at http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm.  You can usually get fingerprints done at your local Sheriff's Department. 
    • Ensure that you have the RESULTS SENT DIRECTLY to the ACCESS Project by filling in the ACCESS staff and address in the “Mail Results To” section. 
    • Only applicants who have secured a position in our program will be reimbursed for the cost of the checks.
